A member asked:

When a pre op urinalysis is ran, what are they testing for? and will marijuana show up in it?

It depends: A routine urinalysis will test for the presence of protein, glucose, red blood cells, white blood cells, appearance, specific gravity, and chemicals that can indicate an infection. A urine toxicology screen is not routinely done pre-operatively, but if it is done, it can detect marijuana.

Health/yes: A pre-op urinalysis is generally done to detect any hidden defect in your kidneys or body that would be reason to cancel surgery (until the issue is fixed). They do not routinely screen for drugs. In most locals you must sign a separate authorization to have any drug test run.
