Not rare: Depends on location, size, type of cancer. Lung cancer may not have symptoms, but can have cough that doesn't go away, shortness of breath, pain in chest, or symptoms related to spread of disease.

Yes.: Lung cancers arise from the cells that line the airways. Any bleeding will end up evident in coughed up secretions. That's why coughing up blood is one of those early warning signs you hear about.
