I have heard, that methodone is more effective w/ chronic pain than opiates, & less addictive. do not believe, and can't possibly understand it to be.?

Unique opioid: Methadone inherently has properties that slows tolerance and also help affect neuropathic pain which makes it unique in the opioid class. No opioid is "better" than another and depends on the person you are treating. Talk to personal physician about this.

Not full picture: Methadone is an opiate with a long "half-life". This means it lasts longer in the body than short-acting drugs like morphine. There is a place for such agents in chronic pain but but under supervision of a physician well versed in its use and its problems. Addiction is complex and also involves the patient's psychological profile and possible addictive personality traits.

No: Methadone is an opiate and can be as addictive and abused as any other one!
