No: Children with autism do not have any particular physical characteristics. They have different ways of processing information and may have difficulties with speech and social development, but they don't look differently than other children.

May or may not: Some times physical features are distinct with big head and short stature and odd facial features but most of the time there are no distinct physical features for autism. Odd behavior, inability to make eye contact, socially inept or awkwardness in mannerisms may be the only presenting features.

Not always: Autism is a categorical diagnosis based on observable behaviors. Genetic tests are part of medical evaluation, as are thorough physical & neurological exams. We examine & measure head size (often large) facial features, & other body parts for dysmorphism (unusual appearance) & use a woods lamp to see abnormal skin pigmentation.. Over 30 known syndromes cause autism & intellectual disability.
