A member asked:

Will autism be formed in a child when they have been physically abused?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not likely.: Abused children certainly may become withdrawn and non-communicative. But the diagnosis of the autistic spectrum is usually made earlier in life --- no eye contact, speech delay, repetitive hand and speech patterns, even developmental regression. However, sometimes if not diagnosed, autism can impact on the way parents interact with their child and abuse could occur. See a pediatric neurologist.
