Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Hives are very common and can be triggered by a medication, a viral infection, or sometimes without a clear cause. These are likely related to her viral flu. I recommend trying to get some Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for her, twice a day if possible. If she cannot hold it down, they make some dissolving Cetirizine tablets which could also work. Talk to your pharmacist to select the right product.

Bring to doctor: I would have her checked by her family doctor or pediatrician to ensure her rash is just hives. If it is, hives are a common consequence of an infection and the intense itchiness will respond to an aggressive antihistamine regimen consisting of h1 and h2 antihistamines with or without a leukotriene receptor blocker such as singulair (montelukast).
