It can be as the : Surgery was to relieve predominant symptom of sciatica by removing disc portion compressing nerve but original disc is not normal & can sometimes not bear load as well as before it herniated so prolonged loads across it like sitting, standing & occ walking may bother it- active exercise including core strengthening, staying trim & not smoking can help. About 10% post disectomy have back pain.

It is not uncommon: 30% of the time after laminectomy discectomy, the back continues to hurt. You may require more treatment. I think you should give it a few more months to settle down. Physical therapy is helpful while you are giving your body some time to heal.

Leg pain: Iwould expect adiscectomy ro have no effect on back pain except to add inscisional pain. This procedure relieves leg pain from nerve pressure.

Yes it is : Discectomy is usually done for leg pain, so if your leg pain is gone and you only have rare episodes of back pain then it's ok. But if your back pain is persistent or gets worse then your surgeon should work you up.
