Try Gabapentin: Gabapentin is not a "pain pill"--but it often relieves nerve pain. It is very safe, can be taken in high doses, and does not adversely interact with other medications. The main side effect is that it may cause sleepiness. Therefore, take whatever dose you can tolerate during the day (that doesn't make you sleepy), and a higher, sleep-inducing dose at night. Think of it as a "nerve stabilizer."
