35-50: While these are the numbers, i would ask you to not concentrate on just one number but look at the entire picture. If the teen is on the low side of these numbers, i would be looking at other lab values such as his hgb, ferritin, ua and making sure there is no evidence of any chronic blood loss (unusual in teen boys, unlike girls who menstruate monthly). These kids often do not intake enough iron.
