It can.: Birth control pills generally are designed to allow a period every 28 days. When there is spotting or unscheduled bleeding your doctor may change to a new formulation to stop it. Some pills are designed for a period every 3 months, and some people will skip their periods or have very light bleeding or spotting on some oral contraceptives.
