A member asked:

Can a doctor induce labor at 33 weeks because of really bad back pains?

No!: It would be totally inappropriate and selfish to induce labor early, with the potential difficulties of the baby not yet being fully developed and ready for birth, just to make your back pains better. Sorry, but you should be maximizing your baby's growth, maturity, and birth health. I'm sorry your back is giving you trouble; discuss with your OB and see if there are some things to help you! but no induce!

No: That would be an unacceptable reason to induce a premature delivery. Back pain related to pregnancy is temporary, complications of prematurity can be lifelong for your child.
