The virus detection: An antigen means anything that generates an antibody; in hepatitis b, it is the virus that attacks the blood cells. There are two types: surface antigen in blood and core antigen. Hepatitis b surface antibody is an immune response to hepatitis b antigen in serum, which appears 1 to 10 weeks after exposure to hepatitis b virus and usually lasts for life. Hepatitis surface antigen equals infection.
