Robotic Assistance: Robotic surgery is performed around the world for a variety of surgical diseases. Current devices allow surgeons to place the robotic instruments via small incisions and then control those instruments via a remote control station that gives the surgeon a 3 dimensional view and enhanced dexterity as compared to traditional laparoscopic surgery. The "robot" is completely controlled by the surgeon.

DaVinci robot: Davinci robotic surgery is really just a surgeon using extremely technologically advanced surgical equipment. The "robot" doesn't really do surgery, it simply acts as our hands inside the patient. It does allow us to do procedures more easily then without the robot. There are some great you tube videos of how the robot looks and works.

Robotic surgery: Robotic surgery means that a robot is used to assist with the operation. The robot doesn't perform the operation on it's own. It serves as an extension of the surgeons hands. The surgeon sits at a console a few feet away and controls the robotic instruments.
