Well: One is a finger and the other is a toe. Other than that, they're pretty much the same. Dermatologists deal with fingers and podiatrists deal with toes (unless it's hanging below your ankles). It's a pretty simple and easy procedure.

See below: Local anesthetic is administered to numb the toe, then a nail splitter is used to cut a portion of the nail. The nail section is removed and then a chemical applied to cauterized the tissue. This will stop the nail from growing back. An antiseptic and dressing is then applied.
