How does a skull molding helmet work?

Helps skull expand: A mold or image of the infant's head is taken and a custom helmet produced to fit snuggly on the protruding parts and leave space for the flat parts. The infant's skull expands a bit like a balloon being inflated with the growing brain causing the skull to enlarge. The skull molding helmet redirects the expansion of the skull towards a more normal shape.

Compression: The helmet is designed to both protect the child from head trauma, while compressing slightly to mold the skull into a more conventional shape
