A member asked:

How does rods placed into the bone effect bone marrow? if bone marrow loss is a result of this condition, would that also cause anemia?

Probably not: Much. In the common situation where a rod is placed in the femur to stabilize a serious fracture there would be effacement of some bone marrow, but not enough in of itself to cause a deficit in rbc production leading to anemia. The fracture itself and the surgery could result in low HGB shortly after the injury.
