Variable: The time it takes to do the splits is highly variable and depends on how tight your muscles are at onset. It also depends on which type of split- straddle/ split leg. The important thing is to take it slow and easy to avoid injury. Perform stretches that mimic the position you are trying to achieve. Hold the position for 20-30 seconds- don't force. Keep repeating. It will gradually get easier.
