Dietary fiber: Hemorrhoids are the result of straining during defecation. Sometimes, advanced hemorrhoids require surgery. Most of the time, the key is diet change. My guess is that your diet is low in fiber. A plant-based diet (whole, unprocessed plants, like vegetables, fruit, grain and nuts) is key to adding fiber. You can also add fiber with metamucil and benefiber. But unprocessed plants are healthier.
