A member asked:

My 18 month old has viral exanthem, is there anything i can use for the itch besides cortisone?

Yes: Benadryl (diphenhydramine). Not sure i would use cortisone in the first place. Cortisone turns off the anti-inflammatory process and that is the process by which the viral exanthem will ultimately be eliminated.

Aveeno (oatmeal) bath/caledryl: Aveeno (oatmeal) bath can be very soothing for itching, also dabbing application of caledryl. Benedryl is harmless and worth trying before using cortisone.
