If your inner ear itches and then hurts; what causes it and what should you do about it? it was itchy last year and the dr. said to put cortisone cream on it and the itching went away, but not for long. repeated the procedure. helped, but not for long.

Itchy : Itchy ears can be from allergies, dermatitis, infection (bacterial or fungal), wax... Could it be possible that you tried to scratch the ear and dis damage to the skin in the canal? This should be an easy fix with your primary care doctor with a possible referral to an ENT if it cannot be fixed.
