Everyone differs: Recovery means functioning normally, having the ability to cope with life and the ability to have positive relationships. People recover at different rates of time. The duration of time for the abuse is a variable, but many abused children form positive adult lives.

Difficult to predict: Depends on individual resiliency, ability to cognitively reframe what happened, social support, and ability to let go and move on. The latter, of course, is easier said then done. If the survivor (better term than victim) is able to understand that the abuse is never the child's fault, she is better able to move on. Support groups can be very helpful!
