3-4 weeks : It frequently takes some time for the gland to return entirely to normal. You should see your physician for an evaluation to look for a stone in the gland that could be causing obstruction of the submandibular duct. Suggest in the meantime that you massage the gland from back to front several times per day. Also place lemon juice or sour candy in your mouth 3 times per day.

Swollen saliva gland: A saliva gland (submandibular glands below the tongue/jaw) may enlarge when there is blockage of the duct. When the blockage is incomplete, the gland will enlarge, then decrease, and may not cause pain. It may indicate "sludging" of the saliva, or presence of a stone. Have an ENT physician examine it. www.mainlineent.com.

Sialadenitis: You may have an infection related to your salivary gland. This can be improved by massage, hydration and lemon or sour candies. You may wish to take some Motrin before suckin on the sour candies as it may be painful when the saliva comes out. If it persists you should seek medical attention. As there may be a stone or mass in the gland.
