Depends on the test: Sometimes a line means positive; sometimes a cross (+) means positive. If it is a faint positive or a slight positive, it still is a positive. That means there is enough HCG to make the test turn positive, which means there is or was a pregnancy. It there is no reason to believe the HCG is on its way down, then one can presume there is a pregnancy.
