How long does a perianal abscess take to heal following i&d?

Variable: Unfortunately, sometimes even after treating a perianal abscess, a chronic form can develop, called a fistula. If you are lucky, it can heal in just a few days, but many are not so fortunate.

Days to weeks: Sorry you had an abscess there, but it will heal. Usually it takes several days to 3 weeks, each case being somewhat different. It may however intermittently drain ast the I&D site, and this could be the formation of a fistula, which is a persistent tract between the inside of the rectum, and the skin near the anus. You should see a colorectal surgeon if this happens.
