A member asked:

If i had hpv lesions on my genitals and touch my self and handshake someone with out washing my hands could they get hpv touching them selfs ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Highly improbable: While there are reported to be non-sexual routes for hpv transmission, the overwhelming majority of hpv transmissions are via sexual contact. Advice to avoid the contact route you've described, and otherwise wash hands after casual contact with your genitals (i.e. Wash hands after using the restroom). Lastly, if you have awareness of active hpv lesions please seek medical attention for treatment.
