Cholangitis: Cholangitis is inflammation of the bile ducts. These ducts are located in the liver and between the liver, gall bladder and intestine. It may also mean infection of the biliary tract, which can progress to ascending cholangitis, which is life threatening. Ascending cholangitis is often associated with obstruction of the bile ducts, most commonly from gall stones.
