Measured HCG: A qualitative pregnancy test tells you either yes or no. It can be by blood or urine. A quantitative HCG measures the exact amount of the pregnancy hormone that is present in the blood test and is useful in a few ways. A number that doubles every 48 hours means a normal pregnancy - less may mean a tubal pregnancy. The value may also give an indication of how far along a pregnancy is.
