Pregnancy test: Beta-hcg is the hormone that rises exponentially in a woman's bloodstream when she is pregnant. Pregnancy can be diagnosed by either detecting HCG in the blood or in the urine. A positive HCG test in either place means the woman is pregnant in most cases.
