In a way, yes.: Lacrimation is the production of tears. The lack of adequate production of tears is called xerophthalmia. This can be caused by the deficiency of vitamin a resulting in a dryness of the conjunctiva and cornea. If left untreated, it can lead to corneal ulceration and ultimately blindness. Excessive tearing: Lacrimation is an excess tearing. It can be due to excess production which is mainly caused by eye condition and sometime due to an irritation. It can also be due to blockage or tightness of the tear drainage system. A complete evaluation by your ophthalmologist can pinpoint the cause.
