Variable: This is a situation where the x-ray really needs to be seen and you really need to be examined in order to provide you with a valid response. The ankle is composed of 3 bones: fibula, tibia and at its base the talus. The location of the fracture is important in determining how long recovery usually takes.

Ankle joint: Generally 4 to 6 weeks, however if there is an ankle sprain associated with this injury and pain continues, studies may be needed to rule out injury to the cartilage surface inside the ankle joint.
