Get information: 40 is a young age to acquire blindness. There are some hereditary causes and a few other things that might have happened. Are you on speaking terms with your brother? Perhaps your parents know the cause. You need to get information for your own peace of mind.

Blindness: There is no way to know what is going on based on your description. If you are not happy with your initial consult, get a second opinion with another ophthalmologist.
