Why the spirometry?: Please discuss these concerns with the physician who ordered spirometry. Spirometry may trigger coughing and labored breathing in patients that have active asthma but not in patients with controlled asthma or normal lungs. Spirometry does not cause collapsed lungs. Coughing up phlegm & blood are not symptoms of a collapsed lung. Something else is going on.

From throat: The speck of blood could be from a small blood vessel that burst in your throat just like a small vessel could burst in your eye and show up as a red splotch in the white of your eye. If the bleeding persists then see your doctor. A forced exhalation could burst a small blood vessel and cause very temporary specks of blood to appear.
