Distance walking: There are different tests to measure endurance: a six minute walk test is the best distance walked in meters per unit time. This is usually done in a straight line/circular tracks may be used. An incremental shuttle walk involves walking between two cones. You walk as long as you can until breathlessness. The number of shuttles (laps between the cones) is noted; a shuttle = 10 meters.

SWT: This test evaluates functional exercise capacity by measuring how long a patient can maintain a constant pace walking around a 10-meter shuttle (between two cones). The swt has stages. The beginning and end of each stage are indicated by an auditory signal (beep). In each stage, the speed is gradually increased. Test ends when one doesn't reach the next cone before the beep.
