Prevention: Worthwhile asking your doctor; he/she may want to culture your nose to see if you are a carrier. Otherwise, wash your hands well and regularly with warm soapy water for at least 20 seconds at a time. Avoid picking the nose. Disinfect surfaces with disinfectant spray. Wash clothes/sheets in hot water. Do not use anyone else's towels. Everyone in the household should follow these instructions.

Staph Infection: In general, staph lives on humans and not on non-living things, at least for very long. Maybe, a day or two at the most and in some cases only a few hours. If you think you may have staph, you should see your dermatologist, so that he or she may do a biopsy and bacterial culture and then, they will treat depending upon the culture results.
