I : I am wondering if you mean a MRSA infection, which is methicillin-resistant staph aureus. These are very common skin infections. They used to be very rare, as most staph infections used to be very sensitive to most antibiotics, but over the years staph have become more resistant to antibiotic treatment. Mrsa is everywhere now in the community. If a patient gets an infection or abscess, they usually need antibiotics. Other treatment that has been found to be helpful includes washing with anti-bacterial soap, eating yogurt, and for very small areas of infection, dabbing it with tea tree oil. These have been proven in studies. However for any concern of cellulitis (skin infection) or abscess, antibiotics should be considered. There are MRSA eradication programs to help get rid of staph also.

It is everywhere: Staph are germs in the environment. They can be found on the skin surface, door knobs, banisters, tables, shopping carts, etc. Some are non-invasive strains, some can cause infections.Good handwashing & antiseptic lotions can help limit exposure.People often acquire & lose staph germs every day & if under your fingernails you plant them where you scratch.
