Wear a bracelet: If u have a documented adrenal insufficiency and u take steroid on a regular basis then make sure that everytime u r admitted to the hospital for a routine or emergent reason or surgery or a procedure that your medical team is aware of the fact that you are steroid dependant because u may require stress dose steroids . Avoid getting dehydrated and make sure to call ur doctor when u get sick.

Life threatening: Your adrenal glands make hormones which help to maintain normal salt and sugar levels in your blood as well as normal blood pressure. An adrenal crisis is a severe presentation of adrenal insufficiency which is life threatening due to potential problems with severely low blood pressure, in addition to very abnormal salt and sugar levels.

Low cortisol state: Acute adrenal crisis is defined by the sudden drop in Hydrocortisone (or its equivalent) in the body, prompting acute physiological changes such as low blood sugar, lethargy, nausea, low blood pressure and sometimes even coma and death. Immediate steroid replacement is needed to reverse the above either via mouth (if the individual is stable and able to swallow) or via intra muscular/intravenous.

Dr. Giuseppe Barbesino

No: People have an "adrenal crisis" only when the adrenal is already very weakened or absent. The crisis can be dangerous, but will not affect the gland itself.
