A member asked:

Having a period for the first time in 12 months. what does it mean? in early 50s, thought was in menopause, period not heavy.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It can happen: Periods become irregular as a woman gets close to menopause. But watch out if it continues to occur over the next 6 months as postmenopausal bleeding can develop from uternie problems. Be prepared to go see your gynecologist if you have any more irregular bleeding in the next 1-3 months. Otherwise it is probably of no consequence.
