Globus hystericus: Swallowing is complex act. Stress, anxiety, or full panic attacks can cause some people to feel tightness in the throat -- or feel as if something is stuck in the throat. This is called globus hystericus. This is not a complete diagnosis in itself, but is a symptom only. Because many physical problems may also lead to a similar sensation, it's important to be examined so these can be ruled out.
