A member asked:

My 15 year grandson was playing around when he fell on his back. now, he has a soft lump in the middle of his head he is a healthy teennage boy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Perhaps a hematoma?: When falling on the backside, it is quite reasonable for the head to snap back and hit as well. If just the right blow occurred to his head, this could trigger a slow bleeding beneath the scalp--called a cephalohematoma. These are rarely dangerous; however, occasionally these occur secondary to a linear skull fracture. Did your grandson lose consciousness? If this area is tender, see your doctor.
