Heart activity: The treadmill stress test has two parts. The first is when you walk/run on the treadmill according to a specific protocol. This measures your EKG at intervals looking for abnormalities that signify decreased or blocked blood flow at various levels of increased activity. This is usually followed by an echocardiogram (ultrasound) to check for wall and valve motion abnormalities in the heart.
