First find out why: Low iron saturation may be evidence of iron deficiency. Low ferritin level would be more specific. If you suspect that you are iron deficient, you should work with a medical professional to find out why your are iron deficient and then to increase your knowledge about the different ways low iron levels can be replenished.

Matter of time: Low iron saturations could indicate the beginning of iron deficiency. However, the body stores quite a bit of iron in the form of ferritin, and it's not until the stores become depleted that the bone marrow starts to become unable to produce red blood cells like it's supposed to.

Maybe iron deficient: Low iron saturation could indicate an overall iron deficiency, but there are other blood tests that need to be done to determine this. Most common causes for iron deficiency are poor absorption from the diet and blood loss. If left untreated, low iron can lead to anemia.
