Supportive: When some is in rehab, they have taken the most important step to recovery. Friends and family play a very critical role in this recovery and probably the most important thing you can do is be supportive. One should not dwell on the past, but look towards the future. I also encourage family and friends help by having the patient "visualize" what the future looks like without drugs or alcohol.

Treat him like a dad: Not sure what you mean by "treat" him. He needs your love and support, and your understanding. All human beings have weaknesses, and your dad is showing strength by working to improve one of his weaknesses (i am assuming you mean alcohol/drug rehab rather than physical therapy). Give him a hug, bring a good book for him to read (aa has lots of literature) and act like yourself.
