A member asked:

Will i eventually have to replace my prosthetic? will my prosthetic last the rest of my life, or will i eventually have to replace it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

2-5 years: Prosthetics usually last 2-5 years depending on wear and tear (i have seen people with 10+ years old prosthesis). The limb changes shape with time requiring replacement sockets (the part where the stump fits in). Insurance companies usually have a minimum period of time they expect the prosthesis to last and will not pay for a replacement before then unless a clear medical reason exists.
