Severak months: Getting a prosthetic folling amputation depends on a lot of factors--the type of amp you had, how well your wound heals, how much edema you have post op, and how fit you are during recovery. In general, following a standard below knee amputation with good wound healing, most patients can expect to be fitted for a prosthetic in 6-10 weeks.

About 4-6 weeks: Once your leg is completely healed the process to fabricate the prosthesis takes between 4-6 weeks. This is primarily because the socket is custom made to fit the stump.

Until healed: Usually six weeks is enough time if you used a stump shrinker. The important point is that the amputation is fully healed and strong enough, and that the swelling has resolved. Getting fitted when swollen will lead to a loose fitting prosthesis and problems more likely sooner than later.
