Yes: Many people with alcoholism will be both, however some people may not have strong physical dependence but still very strong psychological dependence. It is the psychological dependence that really defines the disease, and requires the long term treatment to prevent relapse.

Yes.: And the physical addiction can be life threatening if alcohol is withdrawn too quickly and without medical treatment. Once a person is over the initial withdrawal, aa can be an incredible source of unconditional and free support!
