What is immunotherapy?

Decrease sensitivity: Allergen immunotherapy is a form of treatment aimed at decreasing your sensitivity to substances called allergens. These allergens are identified by allergy testing, and are the substances that trigger your allergy symptoms when you are exposed to them. Allergen immunotherapy involves injecting increasing amounts of an allergen to a patient over several months.

Educate Immune Cell: Immunotherapy involves a retraining of the immune system. This may include therapeutic vaccines or immune checkpoint inhibitors for patients with cancer. The goal is to train the body's immune system to behave more normally for example recognizing and attacking the cancer. This type of therapy has recently gained interest with the approval of immunotherapy agents for prostate cancer and melanoma.
