Scarring: A scar is the result of the body healing. It is the end product of a long cascade of signals and cellular repair that takes approximately a year to complete, and a lifetime to maintain. It is a normal process that occurs whenever we sustain an injury.

Scar: The process in which fibrous tissue (fibrosis) replaces normal tissue after injury. It is a normal part of the healing process. With the exception of very minor lesions, every wound results in some degree of scarring.
