Magnesium oxide: It is the usual form for oral supply. May take one or two daily of the over the counter preparation. You will need to get your blood level checked by your doc in couple of months to see if your level corrected or if it became high.

Magnesium forms: Magnesium oxide is a form which can work, but it's also poorly absorbed in your body. Magnesium citrate, glycinate, and malate are forms that your body may be able to use more easily. Magnesium can also cause diarrhea -- more so with the oxide and hydroxide types. Jigsaw health makes a sustained release dimagnesium malate product, that's less likely to cause diarrhea. More expensive than mgo.
