General to specific: Asperger's is a specific condition in the overall category of similarly clustered conditions called "pervasive developmental disorders, " or pdd. So, one could have pdd, but not be asperger's, but the converse is not true.

PDD and Asperger's: Yes, especially a mild form of asperger's. But there are different opinions. Persons with Asperger syndrome are often higher functioning and generally i would not DX asperger's as pervasive developmental disorder for that reason. There are some well known super-brilliant people who likely had some form of asperger's, eg thomas jefferson and albert einstein.
