In truth, HFA has: Never been a separate diagnostic category. The dsm-v diagnosis autistic spectrum disorder includes autism, Asperger syndrome & pdd-nos. Because core deficits exist in varying degrees in all people with autism, e.g., lack of theory of mind, + impaired facial recognition, social reciprocity, & social communication, all deserve appropriate behavioral, social & educational interventions.

Too early to be sure: It is much too early to be sure what pattern of behavior your child will ultimately develop. Discuss the situation with your pediatrician and get an opinion from an autism specialist.
